The normal range for a HBA1c test for someone without diabetes is between 4 and 5.6 percent. The recommended acceptable hemoglobin A1c level for people with diabetes is below 7 percent.

Patients with HB A1c levels between 5.7 and 6.4 percent are at a higher risk of getting diabetes, while patients with levels of 6.5 percent or above are deemed to have it.

The hemoglobin A1c test is a blood test that demonstrates how effectively diabetes is being controlled. Experts recommend that people with diabetes be tested every 3 months, but people who have their diabetes under control may be able to test less frequently.
